A settlement has been reached with Muscatine Power and Water (“Muscatine” or “Defendant”) in a class action lawsuit. This case is about the targeted cyberattack on Muscatine's computer systems that occurred in January 2024 (the “Data Incident”). Certain files that contained private information were accessed. These files may have contained personal information such as names and Social Security numbers.
The lawsuit is called Cox v. Muscatine Power and Water, Case No. 07701 CVCV027276. It is pending in the District Court of Muscatine County, Iowa (the “Litigation”). Muscatine denies that it did anything wrong, and the Court has not decided who is right. The parties have agreed to settle the lawsuit (the “Settlement”) to avoid the costs and risks, disruptions, and uncertainties of continuing the Litigation.
“Class Members” are defined as individuals identified by Muscatine's records who are entitled to benefits under the Settlement.
